In a fitness driven city where hundreds of individuals are fitness trainers it is difficult to identify the truly elite personal trainer. In my opinion, Kevin Squalls has earned the title of elite personal trainer. His fitness sessions are taxing and high energy but what makes him exceptional is that they are personalized sessions tailored to one's energy level on any given day. We all like to think that we bring our "A game" every time we work out with our trainer but we each know that the stressors of work and family can undermine that "A game" feeling. I had one of those days and Kevin spontaneously altered my planned training session. In its place he created a substitute session on the spot that required strength, focus, and was challenging. The training session he designed responded to the fact that I needed a slow start but wanted to eventually conclude in an uptempo, competitive posture. The components of the session were unique and did not rely on "old standards" of fitness training. "As a competitive gymnast for ten years, I always turned my nose up at the thought of personal trainers. To me, they were just there to provide the basics for people who didn't know how to exercise properly (or yell at you to do "ONE MORE!"), and after years of gymnastics, I figured I had the basics down pretty well. Kevin has a remarkable ability to assess the relative weak points of each of his students and to create customized programs to specifically address those needs.

In my case, Kevin observed that I was favoring my tight calves during our workouts, so he set aside time to show me how to use a foam roller in order to work out the knots in my tight muscles.

After a few days of practicing his techniques I was experiencing muscle flexibility and pain relief that went above and beyond anything that I was able to achieve through months of yoga classes.
